Hillside Modern

Hillside Modern

Spectacular views of downtown Austin, and the panoramic Hill Country inform the layout while increasing the exposure of the Architecture. A simple ‘L’ shape form with an intimate Courtyard organize around a Resort style pool, Spa, and Landscape Terraces. Cantilevered roof planes of steel, wood, and plaster shade expansive glass walls and create a floating effect, reinforcing the sloped site. A stone wall creates a gateway into the motor court with multiple garage doors protected from street view. A central glass pavilion acts as the entry point and glass wings separate the public and private zones of the residence.  Upscale window and door systems with zero thresholds further the experience of bringing the outdoors into the interior of the home along with the stone flooring that flows all the way to the pool.  A respect for Mid-Century Modern style is apparent throughout the project, but re-imagined with current technology, lighting, appliances, and large automated moveable glass walls.

Our studio created this new style that we call “New Century Modern.”

A tired 11,000 square foot Texas Tuscan luxury home was removed to make room for a fresh new Modern home with much less floor area.  Traditional separate spaces of Living, Parlor, Family, and Dining are redefined and consolidated into a Great Room concept with adjacent spaces flowing into each other instead of compartmentalization.
